Annapolis Maritime Museum Winter Lecture Series: The Ghost Ships of Archangel: Allied Convoy PQ- 17 on the Murmansk Run – Annapolis Maritime Museum, Annapolis January 9, 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Presentation by award-winning journalist and author William Geroux about the desperate voyage of Allied convoy PQ-17 from Iceland to Arctic Russia in the summer of 1942. Women of Progress: Early Camera Portraits – Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, Annapolis Temporary Exhibit on display until May 30, 2020 In mid-nineteenth-century America, the growing presence of women in public life coincided with the rise of portrait photography. This exhibition of daguerreotypes and ambrotypes from the 1840s and 1850s features portraits of early feminist icons, women’s rights advocates Margaret Fuller and Lucy Stone, abolitionist Lucretia Mott and best-selling author Harriet Beecher Stowe. Ann Shumard, the National Portrait Gallery’s senior curator of photographs, is the curator of this exhibition.

Call to Artists: In Search of Small Works – Queen Anne’s County Centre for the Arts, Centreville Through January 29 Queen Anne's County Centre for the Arts is sponsoring our 9th Annual Small Works, an exhibit and auction of small works of art. The proceeds of the event will benefit the Arts Council and the events, scholarships, and grants we do all year long. We ask artists to donate a piece for the show which will be on exhibit from February 7th to March 14th. Applications and requirements can be found online. Maryland State Boychoir – Christ Church, Easton January 12, 4:00 p.m. The Maryland Boychoir serves the state of Maryland as “Official Goodwill Ambassadors.” Comprised of approximately 150 choristers, ages 7 to 20, members hail from nine Maryland counties, Baltimore City, Washington, DC, Virginia and Pennsylvania. The Tour Choir is comprised of approximately forty of the most advanced and skilled choristers from within the organization. The choir performs more than 60 times each year throughout Maryland and surrounding states.
