From the Wye River to Dun’s Cove to the Herring Bay, photographer and writer Stephen R. Brown has compiled a book of the waterways, their inhabitants (both human and animal), and other unique shots of life that capture the spirit of the Bay. “Stephen’s photographs help connect audiences with the natural beauty of the Chesapeake Bay and the environment,” says executive director of the Annapolis Maritime Museum Jeff Holland. “It leads to fostering stronger stewardship of the Bay.”
At the end of this month, the Annapolis Maritime Museum will debut the exhibit Tidewater: The Chesapeake Bay in Photographs featuring images from Brown’s new book of the same name. A reception will be held on Friday, January 27th from 5:30–7:30 p.m. where the admission fee will be waived and attendees will get the opportunity to have Brown autograph copies of his book.
Attendees of the exhibit and Brown’s fans can rest assure that these photos are truly sacred, as a sidebar on the book sleeve states, “The photographs are exclusive never-to-be-duplicated images taken by renowned photographer Stephen R. Brown on assignment for national and international magazines. These assignments gave Brown exclusive access to the nooks and crannies of the nation’s largest estuary.”
Brown’s book boasts more than 100 pages of colorful sunsets, picturesque boating weather, sailboats gliding along glistening water, and community shots, along with his proud narrative of fun facts and personal experiences. He will deliver an illustrated talk on his work as part of the Annapolis Maritime Museum’s winter lecture series the day before the exhibit opens on Thursday, January 26th; a fee does apply.
