The Academy Art Museum in Easton, MD, recently appointed Dr. Anke Van Wagenberg of Salisbury as its new curator. Dr. Van Wagenberg previously served as Director of the Mosely Gallery at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, MD, where she curated numerous exhibitions over the last five years, while teaching Art History. She has also taught at Washington College in Chestertown and at Salisbury University. Dr. Van Wagenberg began her Art History career in Washington DC, where she worked at the National Gallery of Art on the permanent collection and exhibitions in Northern Baroque Painting. She also helped prepare the Weldon exhibition and catalogue at the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore.
Erik Neil, director of the Academy Art Museum, comments, “Anke has the rare combination of an international perspective and deep connections with the arts on the Eastern Shore. I know that her energy, expertise, and knowledge will greatly enhance all of the curatorial projects of the Academy Art Museum.”
Dr. Van Wagneberg holds a PhD in Art History, from the Vrije University in Amsterdam, in her native Netherlands, as well as a Masters in Art History and Archaeology. She has published scholarly under her full name, Anke A. Van Wagenberg-Ter Hoeven. Currently she is preparing the catalogue raisonné of Jan Baptist Weenix and Jan Weenix. She comes to Easton with husband Maurits Van Wagenberg, PhD, management consultant. They have college age children.
