Call of the Water
Artists come from across the country to paint the Chesapeake Bay and environs. They come for a painting competition and want to return every year. They come to take a workshop or a vacation and the call of the water ings them back on a ‘working' painting trip to supply their galleries with beautiful scenes of the ‘East Coast' and the Chesapeake Bay.
Participating show artists are from the Mid-Atlantic States as well as from across the country, coming together to share their best paintings of this large beautiful estuary. This is the first year McBride Gallery will be presenting a Best of Show award and a number of Awards of Merit at the opening reception on Sunday, September 12th. The show runs from September 12 – October 3rd.
The Vision: To cele ate the beauty of the Chesapeake Bay yesterday and today.
For many years photographers and artists in film or on canvas have captured the Chesapeake Bay and its environs. From colonial sea battles to visiting historic square-riggers, steamboats ferrying passengers, and workboats like the graceful skipjacks, bugeyes and log canoes to its unique octagonal lighthouses, the Bay has a lot to offer the artist. Life continues to thrive around this body of water, not just the human variety, but great blue herons, crabs, rockfish, and osprey that live in and around the water, the great marshes, small inlets and islands. The small harbor towns, some still tied economically to the Bay, add a quaintness and historic character along the many miles of sandy or marshy shorelines.
McBride Gallery is open seven days a week.
Gallery Hours: Mon. - Sat 10 - 5:30, Sunday, 12 - 5:30, Thursday until 9:00pm
