This week, the Academy sends off the class of 2012.
r
A lot of Commissioning Week events are open only to USNA faculty, staff, students, and guests, but several are also open to the general public. And, luckily for us, some of those are really fun.
r
On Monday, at 1:30 p.m., the class of 2015 attempted the traditional climb of the Herndon Monument. And, forgive the pun, they came out on top! Which I think is more than most of us could do even if the 21-foto monument weren't greased with some 50 lbs. of lard. (C'mon--lard is serious stuff.)
r
If you missed the plebes' climb and find yourself wanting to be a part of Commissioning Week festivities, fear not. There's plenty more to do.
r
On Friday, the general public is invited to a USNA Pipes and Drums Performance in T-Court from 11:30-11:50 a.m., followed by a USNA Silent Drill Performance. A noon meal formation/ igade change-of-command ceremony takes place afterward.
r
And all you music fans, take note (I swear that one wasn't intentional)--there are a lot of shows throughout the week. Commissioning Week concerts include a men's Glee Club performance at 8 p.m. in the Main Chapel on Saturday and a USNA Band Walk Chapel Concert at the Zimmerman Bandstand from noon to 12:30 p.m., the Commissioning Week Organ Concert by Monte Maxwell at 4 p.m., and the Women's Glee Club performance in Mahan Hall at 8 p.m. on Sunday. The Gospel Choir performs at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, also in Mahan Hall.
r
So, see anything you like? Even if you don't, you should check out the full schedule. Perhaps there'll be something there to spark your interest.
