Rams' Head in Annapolis has announced a host of shows to start the new year (hey, it'll be here before we know it). The under-40 set will not likely pick up on this one, but Al Stewart (alstewart.com) takes the stage on March 3. Rahsaan Patterson (rahsaan.com) plays on March 5.
If you're not ready to admit that the holidays are quickly approaching, and you feel like heading to Dewey on October 2, Elizabeth & The Catapult (elizabethandthecatapult.com) will play the Rusty Rudder mere days before touring with Aimee Mann.
The syncopated beat of “Race You”, the lead single from the forthcoming The Other Side of Zero instantly catches the listener. In fact, the track was recently used in a Google advertisement. Since Google knows just about everything else you're doing, you may as well buy in and listen to the music they suggest, too. MTV has given the video for “Race You” airtime and you would be smart to give Elizabeth & The Catapult a listen.
The pop sensibility of the band is ever-present on the Rilo Kiley-esque “Momma's Boy” from their debut album, Taller Children, but the band is versatile enough that they pulled off a beautiful cover of Leonard Cohen's “Everybody Knows” on the same record. If you are just now picking up on Florence & The Machine after the VMAs, or if you are tired of the same old indie-pop, this ought to tickle your fancy.
Elizabeth & The Catapult will also play in Easton on November 4 at the NightCat.
