After running about 20 miles in San Francisco this past weekend, including a trek across the Golden Gate Bridge, I thought that I was pretty, well, tough. But that was before I started reading about the Columbia Triathlon, which is happening this Saturday from 6:30 to noon. A total of 2,400 endurance athletes will compete in this race, including James Cunnama, winner of the 2010 Ironman Florida and Jasmine Oeink, winner of the 2009 Professional U.S. National Triathlon.
The race includes a 1.5k swim, a 10k run, and a 41k bike ride. I could probably do the run and then collapse in a heap watching the swimmers and the bikers ride past. There is a motivating factor, though, prize money of $30,000. This year is the 28th running of the event -- taking place in Centennial Park in Ellicott City, Maryland.
