The teams face off one more time at Nats Park tonight with Washington’s 2012 Minor League Pitcher of the Year Nathan Karns making his MLB debut against Orioles stud pitcher Kevin Gausman, the fourth overall selection in the 2012 MLB Draft who made his debut last week against the Toronto Blue Jays. The battle will commence at Camden Yards on Wednesday and Thursday. The previously undefeated Terps were seeking their 11th national title while the Tar Heels captured their first. South River High School graduate Brooke Griffin scored five points for the Terps. r rr rThe Washington Wizards went in to the NBA Draft Lottery drawing last Tuesday with the eighth best odds of earning the No. 1 pick in the draft. They didn’t get the top pick but lucked out and received the third overall selection, the same spot that they were able to snag Bradley Beal at last year. Early mock drafts have the Wizards selecting a local favorite, Georgetown sophomore Otto Porter, Jr. In other news, director of player personnel Pat Connelly was hired by the Phoenix Suns to work in an unspecified role in their scouting department. r rr rThe Washington Mystics (1-0) made their season debut with a 95-90 win in Tulsa against Skylar Diggins and the Shock. United (1-9-2) dropped their ninth game of the season 2-0 to the Portland Timbers at R.F.K. Stadium on Saturday.
