rThe Baltimore Orioles (40-30) won both series’ in their homestand against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and the Boston Red Sox, going 5-7 in that stretch. At 10 games over .500, the Orioles are on a roll and are only 1.5 games behind Boston for the AL East lead. Manny Machado is riding a 14-game hitting streak and has already hit 32 doubles in 70 games. rRoss Detwiler and Stephen Strasburg made their returns from the disabled list for the Washington Nationals (34-34) this week with different results. Strasburg threw five innings Sunday and only allowed one hit but the Nats left seven on base and couldn’t get a runner home, dropping his record to 3-6 on the season. Detwiler allowed six hits and three runs but got the no-decision in the team’s 5-4 win over Colorado. Anthony Rendon came up big in the Cleveland series, hitting his first career home run, which turned out to be the game winner on Saturday night. He’s hitting .361 on the season and has only gone hitless in three games. In other pitching moves, the team was also able to move fireballer Henry Rodriguez for pitcher Ian Dickson from the Chicago Cubs last week. rThe Washington Redskins ought back a familiar face last week by signing wide receiver Donte Stallworth, who caught two touchdowns with the team in 2011. Stallworth appeared in one game with the New England Patriots in 2012. The team also signed his former teammate from New Orleans, fellow speedster wide receiver Devery Henderson and kick John Potter, who played in six games as a rookie with the Buffalo Bills in 2012 as a kickoff specialist. To make room, the team waived defensive lineman Doug Worthington, tight end Deangelo Peterson, and fullback Dorson Boyce. r rr
rThe Baltimore Ravens attempted to trade three-time Pro Bowl fullback Vonta Leach last week but found no takers, so they decided to release the 11-year veteran instead. The team signed tight end Billy Bajema to take his roster spot. The team announced today that the team will hold individual practices at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore and at Stevenson University for the second straight season. Fans wanting to attend practices at the Under Armour Performance Center in Owings Mills must enter a lottery on the team’s website and will be selected at random. rThe Washington Wizards continued to work out prospects last week, including Georgetown star Otto Porter and UNLV’s Anthony Bennett. Former DeMatha and Indiana star Victor Oladipo declined to work out for the Wizards so the team will choose to watch him take part in an independent workout. r rr
