rThe Baltimore Orioles (49-40) suffered a rough patch on the field, dropping four of five until salvaging the weekend with Adam Jones’ two-run home run against the New York Yankees in the top of the ninth inning Sunday. The team got better news Saturday when they found out they will have four representatives at next week’s All-Star Game. Jones, first baseman Chris Davis, shortstop J.J. Hardy, and third baseman Manny Machado, who also turned 21 Saturday, all found out they will be representing the orange and black at Citi Field. Davis also said he would be very interested in participating in the Home Run Derby during next week’s All-Star festivities. The team also made roster moves last Tuesday when they traded pitchers Jake Arrieta and Pedro Strop to the Chicago Cubs for pitchers Scott Feldman and catcher Steve Clevenger, a Glen Burnie native. Next game: vs. Texas Rangers, July 8, 7:05 p.m. r rr![](/downloads/21456/download/Washington-Nationals.jpg.jpe)
rWith a sweep of the San Diego Padres this weekend, the Washington Nationals (46-42) are four games over .500 for the first time since Mid-May. The Nats crowd was greeted with three curtain calls this week: Bryce Harper after he hit the second pitch he saw for a home run in his first game back since May 26; Wilson Ramos after he hit a go-ahead three-run home run against the Brewers in his first game since May 15, and Ryan Zimmerman when he hit his fourth career grand slam Sunday against the Padres. Harper and pitcher Jordan Zimmermann were both named to the NL All-Star team, with Harper becoming the youngest starter in NL history. Shortstop Ian Desmond is a Final Vote nominee to get into the All-Star Game. Voting ends Thursday. In roster news, the team signed veteran catcher Kelly Shoppach and optioned him to AAA Syracuse and placed pitcher Ross Detwiler on the 15-day DL with a low back strain. Late Sunday, the Nats acquired outfielder Scott Hairston and a player to be named later from the Cubs for minor-league pitcher Ivan Pineyro. rThe Washington Capitals continued to restructure their roster with the first week of free agency, losing Mike Ribeiro to the Phoenix Coyotes with a four-year, $22 million contract after being acquired from the Dallas Stars in a trade last summer and fan-favorite Matt Hendricks to the Nashville Predators on a four-year, $7.4 million deal. Jeff Schultz, who was bought out by the team last week, signed a one-year, $700,000 deal with the Los Angeles Kings. The team also signed four players to one-year, two-way contracts: David Kolomatis, Tyson Strachan, Matt Watkins, and David Leggio. Last week, it was announced that Alex Ovechkin became the second player to earn NHL All-Star honors at multiple positions, left wing and right wing. Despite only playing four games at left wing, he earned enough votes to earn second-team honors at that position. r rr![](/downloads/21458/download/Washington-Wizards.jpg.jpe)
