March 8th: International Women's Day. Observed since the early 1900s, International Women's Day is a day of inspiration and celebration. Events ranging from political rallies and networking conferences to fashion parades and craft markets are held all over the world to connect and unite women.
March 10th. Paddy in the Alley. An early celebration of St. Patrick's Day, Paddy in the Alley takes place outside Leaky Pete's Oyster and Wine Bar in Cambridge. The event features beer and other libations, shopping displays, food vendors, and live music. A portion of the $5 charge will be donated to charity.
March 11th: Daylight Savings. Womp, womp. Spring forward, fall back. Need I say more?
March 17th: St. Patrick's Day. St. Patrick's Day is traditionally recognized to commemorate St. Patrick. It's a public holiday in the Republic of Ireland, Newfoundland and Labrador, Northern Ireland, and Montserrat and is recognized by the Catholic Church, the Lutheran Church, the Anglican Communion, and the Eastern Orthodox Church. You might know it as a day on which green beer is served, shamrocks pop up in grocery stores, and everyone seems to suddenly have discovered their Irish ancestors.
March 17th: Soup 'n Walk. Adkins Arboretum will hold its March Soup 'n Walk to check out new spring buds, fiddleheads on Christmas fern, and early pink and purple blooms. The menu includes carrot and cauliflower soup with herbs, avocado and pink grapefruit salad, dill rye bread with strawberry jam, and chocolate walnut cookies.
March 20th: Spring Begins. Hooray! Spring is here! We didn't have much of a winter, so weather might not be much of an issue, but dont' forget that the March Equinox brings longer days too. The National Cherry Blossom Festival in D.C. also starts on March 20th.
March 23rd through 25th: Fifth Annual Maryland Day Celebration. Cultural, historical, and natural resource sites throughout the Heritage Area of Annapolis, London Town, and South County will celebrate the founding of the colony of Maryland with special events, tours, and programs.
March 24th: Annapolis Oyster Roast and Sock Burning. The Annapolis Maritime Museum will hold the second annual Oyster Roast and Sock Burning, complete with family-friendly activities, oyster shucking contests, live music, and all the oysters your seafood-loving palette desires.
March 24th and 25th: The Annapolis Comic-Con. This year's Comic-Con will take place at the Pip Moyer Recreation Center, and will be jam-packed with games, tournaments, panels, and giveaways.
March 25th through 31st: Talbot Restaurant Week. Talbot County's Restaurant Week offers visitors and locals alike the chance to see the most contemporary trends in gourmet dining at eateries in Easton, St. Michaels, Oxford, Tilghman Island, and Trappe.
March 31st: L'chaim! To Life. The Chester River Chorale will hold its spring performance, L'Chaim! To Life, at the Garfield Center for the Arts at the Prince Theater. The concert will celebrate American music with Jewish routes. Repeats on April 1st (but that's not what this blog post is about).
As a whole, March is Women's History Month, Red Cross Month, National Kidney Month, and the all-important Exotic Winter Fruit & Leeks and Green Onions Month.
