Fortunately for fans of the Bard such as me, the Maryland Shakespeare Festival and Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre are teaming up to ing A Midsummer Night’s Dream right to our doorstep.
If you’re not familiar with the play, here’s a basic plot summary, courtesy of the folks at Maryland Shakespeare Festival: Helena loves Demetrius, who loves Hermia, who loves Lysander.
Got that?
It’s a standard love triangle with warring fairy royalty, a particularly playful (some might say troublesome) fairy servant, a clueless local theatre troupe, and a man-turned-donkey thrown into the mix. Needless to say, hilarity follows.
This production will be performed in Maryland Shakespeare’s signature Bare Bard Style, which, according to their website is an “improvisational and interactive experiences that explores the original practices of William Shakespeare.”
That means that, like Shakespeare’s original audiences, those at Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre should expect outrageous physical comedy, live music, crowd interaction, and choreographed dances.
