Last Thursday, I had the opportunity to attend the opening reception for re:Source on 162 Main Street. Anne Johnson and Cathy Durkan, formerly the owners of Mixed Greens on Randall Street, decided to re and their shop and move it to a more accessible location. What better reason to have a party?

Several of the artists who contribute to the store's merchandise were there, including Ally Tierney of Suriya Designs, who creates Scrabble tile pendants, which are the store's top seller. You can find these pendants, of course, with their traditional letters and point values on them. But more ornate ones feature map sections, postage stamps and other embellishments. Additional popular items include bowls made from records, and art and jewelry created from reclaimed items. The theme of the shop is recycling, or upcycling; turning something many would throw away into something better. It also features sustainable and Fair Trade Items.

While the opening reception was closed to the public, Durkan mentioned that the store's currently empty second level would be perfect for gallery shows and as a general events space. Stay tuned for opportunities to join in on the fun. Or just owse the shop during its normal business hours. Call 410-216-9830 for more information.
