rNanticoke River Jamboree: "Life on the River 1612-1812" includes exhibits and demonstrations by environmental and historic groups, a native plant sale, period re-enactors, and Daniel Firehawk Abbott's "Origins" program. At Handsell House, Vienna.
rEastport A Rockin' was crated to expose local music to a larger audience, and now draws attendees from all over the Chesapeake region. At the Annapolis Maritime Museum, Annapolis.
rSafeway Barbecue Battle is a celebration of the art of barbecue, and includes delicious taste treats from top vendors, free samples, a nationally-recognized barbecue cooking competition, and live music. On Pennsylvania Ave., Washington, D.C.
r27: Smithsonian Folklife Festival celebrates several U.S. and foreign cultures, and features music, crafts, food, and demonstrations. Through 7/1 and 7/4 through 7/8. On the National Mall, Washington, D.C.
r30: TEDxChesterRiver is an independently-organized event in the TED tradition, bringing local thought-leaders, innovators, and artists to the Eastern Shore to present powerful talks and "ideas worth spreading." At Washington College, Chestertown.

r13: Solomons Island Invitational has competitors racing through the night en route to the mouth of the Patuxent River, and features one of the prettiest race starts for spectators. Unfolds near the U.S. Naval Academy Seawall, Annapolis.
14: Annapolis Irish Festival features 17 traditional and Irish rock bands on three stages, more than 60 vendors, performances and free lessons by schools of Irish dance, animal ambassadors, and the massive "Little Leprechaun Land" kids area. At the Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds, Crownsville.
rTaste of Cambridge and Crab Cook Off has local chefs going head to head with their crab dishes, and features professional crab-picking competition, live music, lots of non-crab food and drink, and kids' activities and contests. Throughout downtown Cambridge.
rPlein Air Easton draws artists from coast to coast to get the best outdoor painting "in the moment," and encourages spectators to watch them work. Through 7/22. Throughout Easton.
r20: Artscape lines the streets with fine artists, fashion designers, craftspeople, visual art exhibits, and the ever-popular art cars, and features talented national, regional, and local musicians performing throughout the weekend. Through 7/22. Around Mt. Royal Station, Baltimore.
r26: Chestertown Crazy Days spread out over the downtown area's red-brick sidewalks, as specialty shops display their great bargains inside and out, and feature plenty of family-friendly activities. Throughout downtown Chestertown.
r28: Chesapeake Folk Festival gives you the chance to enjoy live music, a variety of food items, wines from Maryland vineyards, boat rides, maritime and foodways demonstrations, and crafts vendors. At the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, St. Michaels.
rAugust:
r3: Annapolis Rotary Crab Feast includes all-you-can-eat male crabs, Maryland vegetable crab soup, sweet Maryland corn, draft beer, beef barbecue sandwiches, and more. At Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, Annapolis.
r4: Betterton Appreciation Day celebrates the beach town of Betterton in Kent County, and includes a parade down Main Street, crafts, games, and plenty of food. Throughout Betterton.
rBerlin Peach Festival gives attendees the chance to take part in peach pie eating and baking contests, view artisan demonstrations and crafts, and shop from local vendors. There will also be kid-friendly activities like like a cupcake walk, a peach toss game, and storytelling. At the Taylor House Museum, Berlin.
r6: Queen Anne's County Fair features family-friendly activities, including corn hole games, goose and duck calling contests, truck pulls, a rodea, jousting, and a number of 4-H shows, as well as musical entertainment by Bay Country Gentlemen and Jones Boys. r11: Silopanna Music Festival offers a diverse lineup of nationally-known artists, including Robert Randolph and the Family Band, G. Love and Special Sauce, Citizen Cope, and CAKE. rSeafood Feast-I-Val features all-you-can-eat Maryland delicacies like steamed crabs, crab soup, fried fish, fried clams, BBQ chicken, and more, as well as entertainment for the whole family. At Sailwinds Park, Cambridge.
r18: 9th Annual 12 oz. Regatta requires participants to put their expertise and ingenuity to the test, as they construct model boats from common household items and at least one empty beer can (or soda can for the kids). At the Eastport Democratic Club, Annapolis.
r24: Maryland State Fair brings a number of national musicians to Timonium, and features tons of family-friendly attractions like rides, games, exhibits, and livestock shows. Through 9/3. At the Maryland State Fairgrounds, Timonium.
r30: Abbey Road on the River is a festival honoring the music and legend of The Beatles, and includes an extensive lineup of Beatles tribute bands from all of the world. At the National Harbor, National Harbor.
