"Love it!"
r
Roses, sweets, jewelry, cologne—they're all good, but standard. If you're looking for something to give your day that big wow factor, it's time to think outside the chocolate box.
r
If you want to make the most of the holiday, start early. Kick things off with eakfast in bed (made even more special by the fact that Valentine's Day falls on a work day), and make sure you include a card or note.
r
Keep the trend going by sending surprises throughout the afternoon. This is the perfect time for those roses and candy to make their appearances.
r
Once evening rolls around, it's time for the big finish. If you're going to take your significant other out to dinner, our Food Editor, Kelsey Casselbury, has compiled a list of local Valentine's Day dinner specials that might give you some inspiration. If you're planning on going the romantic-meal-at-home route, then convince your partner's friends to all go out to lunch. Once it's time for dinner, your significatn other will be unsuspecting, and it will make your night in even more special.
r
If you're still not satisfied, go dancing. I know it's old-timey, but I think this particular holiday calls for that kind of feeling.
r
"Meh."
r
This is where I, and a lot of people like me, fall on the Valentine's Day scale. It doesn't make me turn my head in disgust, but it doesn't exactly get me all pumped up.
r
Still, if you're in a relationship, it's always nice to show that you care and be shown in return.
r
This, I think, is the perfect time to get crafty.
r
Hommade gifts always seem to have more feeling than store bought ones (big Valentine's fans take note), and they give you a chance to throw some humor into the holiday. Cards, poems, letters, baked goods--the possibilities are endless. If you're musical, consider a song. If you're old-school, think about a mix tape CD playlist.
r
And, to finish off your evening, order some takeout and watch a movie. It's fun and cozy, but it won't make you feel like you need to see a dentist after a 24-hour sweetfest.
r
"Hate it."
r
Okay, so you could spend the day sobbing and listening to "Someone Like You" on repeat. Or, you could cele ate Valentine's day like it was made for you.
r
Instead of making the holiday a day about romantic love, think about all the other people you care about. Go out with friends, do something fun with your family, or do something nice for yourself. Get a haircut or a massage; a mani-pedi or a hot shave.
r
If you really want to be festive, throw a party. Who doesn't love an excuse to get dressed up, drink cocktails, and eat? C'mon.
r
But, if you just can't ing yourself to be around other people, then do something alone. Take a daytrip to somewhere you've never been, or start a hobby you've never tried. Yoga? Rock climbing? Salsa dancing?
r
Of course, you could always pretend that it's just another day, and go about your regular routine. You know what they say—ignorance is bliss.
