These days, it seems like everyone is trying to get healthy. And, we all know that exercise is one of the most beneficial things we can do for ourselves.
r
So, why not start with something for the whole family?
r
This Saturday, at 8:30 a.m., Junior League of Annapolis is hosting its fifth annual Volunteers on the Run 5k at the Red Maple Pavilion at Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis. Registration is open on race day, and all proceeds will benefit Junior League.
r
This family-friendly race is open to racers, runners, and walkers alike, and features a fast, scenic course through the park's jogging trails. A special children 100-yard dash will take place before the 5k.
r
Prizes will be awarded for age groups ranging from 10 years and under to 60 and over, and random post-race prizes will be given to lucky runners in attendance. Plus, all children will receive participant ribbons. I told you it was a family-friendly event.
r
But, if you're looking for something a little less grueling (and I can't say I blame you), but still super fun, then consider heading to the Eastern Shore. Fall into St. Michaels kicks off on Friday.
r
Fall into St. Michaels is a multi-day cele ation of all the best fall ings to the town. It runs through November 5th, and offers fun activities everyone in the family can enjoy.
r
This weekend, be sure to check out the scarecrow cele ation, and the 2nd Annual Scarecrow Contest on Talbot Street. All of the festival's major events are free.
r
Thinking of heading out of town? You might want to make a trip to the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center and Refuge. On Saturday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., the center is cele ating its 75th anniversary with the Patuxent Wildlife Festival.
r
At the festival, you'll get to enjoy live animals, kids' crafts, tram tours, and behind-the-scenes research tours of the Research Center. Attendees will also see where endangered whooping cranes and sea ducks are raised and studied.
r
The Wildlife Festival is free to attend, with tram tours costing $3 for adults, $2 for seniors, and $1 for children 12 and under.
r
But, whatever you choose to do this weekend, have a great one!
