No, I'm not Jewish myself, but I think I have a more-than-average number of Jewish friends (three out of my six idesmaids at my recent wedding are Jewish). Therefore, I've grown up with a healthy appreciation for delicious traditional food, both at Hanukkah and at other times of the year (My husband makes fun of me for my love of Matzo Ball Soup). Last year was a huge delight when I visited a Jewish friend's family in New Jersey, and her mother made isket, latkes, and applesauce, and I got to be a part of lighting the Menorah.
However, I can't claim to be the expert of making any of this food. I recently attempted to make sweet potato pancakes, and they fell apart on me. I plan to try, try again; however, here are some great tips on making traditional Hanukkah meals from people who are much more knowledgeable than me.
