On Friday, June 7, at 7 PM internationally award winning barbershop quartet, Secret Best Friends, will perform a free album release concert in Eastport. Stop, Don't Panic is an album filled with well known jazz favorites performed with a new spin. Hear classics like "(I've Got a Gal in) Kalamazoo" and "I could Write a Book," and rediscover favorites like "C'est Si Bon" and the Bossa Nova "No More Blues (Chenga de Saudade)." Quartet Midnight Society will perform as special guests.
Secret Best Friends is comprised of Kevin Juliana, James Isley, James Pennington and Will Daniel Simmons. Locally-based, this group combines their love of barbershop, jazz and other influences to perform exciting, playful arrangements of songs both familiar and obscure. They earned the Contemporary A Capella Society's 2022 video award for Best Barbershop Video for their rendition of "Obey Your Air Raid Warden" (one of the tunes to be performed in this concert).
The quartet is a proud member of the Barbershop Harmony Society, representing the Society's Mid-Atlantic District. Secret Best Friends earned 12 place in the world at the 2023 BHS International Quartet Competition in Louisville, Kentucky.
Eastport United Methodist Church is conveniently located within walking distance of downtown Annapolis at 926 Bay Ridge Avenue (410-263-5490). Parking is free and plentiful and the concert space is wheelchair accessible. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the 7:00 p.m. show.
