Bee-utiful Buzz: A Celebration of Bees

A group of local bee enthusiasts are joining forces to raise awareness about the importance of bees and their impact on our ecosystem. The event, which will take place on May 11, 2023, from 5-7:30 pm at Oxford Community Center (OCC), will bring together a beekeeper, a store owner with bee-related products, a bee hotel maker, Talbot Master Gardener Volunteers, and the Oxford Garden Club, allof whom are passionate about preserving our planet's pollinators.Bees are essential for pollinating crops and plants; without them, our food supply and ecosystems would suffer greatly. The event aims to educate the community on the importance of bees and show ways to help protect them.There will be a range of activities, including presentations by:
George Myer (aka BeeGeorge) on the role of bees in our environment and the challenges theyface.
Amy Taylor owner of Honey Bee Trading Post will explain how her love of all things bee-relatedled her to open her store in Cambridge.
Amelia Foxwell, owner of Creatives Corner in Stevensville will describe the need for providing a‘bee hotel’ for native bees.
Mikaela Boley, Home Horticulture & Master Gardener Coordinator will demonstrate the important relationship between native plants and native pollinator populations,
The Oxford Garden Club on the importance of planting bee-friendly plants in our yardsVisitors can sample local wildflower honey and explore products with ingredients from the hive. You will also learn how to create easy, beautiful and functional bee hotels for solitary bees, take-home brochures, ideas, and seeds or bee-friendly plants. We are excited to bring together local businesses passionate about bees and their importance in our environment, said OCC Director Liza Ledford. We hope to educate and inspire our community to takeaction to protect these vital pollinators."
