Sailors are historically in-tune with nature. Hall of Fame sailor, Gary Jobson, presents a synopsis of the sustainability progress of the Chesapeake Bay and America’s coastal waters. The program will include stunning images of Jobson’s expeditions to the Arctic, Antarctic, and Cape Horn. The environment is fragile.  The question is what mankind can do to reverse the devastating effects of climate change? Sea levels are rising at alarming rates, pollution in the seas is suffocating wildlife, devastating storms are wreaking havoc across the country and forest fires are destroying millions of acres of precious resources. Laced through this presentation will be film clips of sailing around the world, and how the sport of sailing has given Jobson a unique appreciation of our special world. 

Bio:

Gary Jobson is an America’s Cup winning tactician who has spent his life promoting the sport of sailing. He has sailed on every continent of the world and won many one design and offshore championships. He has led cruising expeditions to the Arctic, Antarctic, Cape Horn, and Sable Island, and he has completed six Transatlantic crossings. Jobson has written 23 books on sailing and served as a commentator for ESPN for 31 years. He has covered the Olympic Games for NBC since 1988.  

Jobson is currently, co-chair of the National Sailing Hall of Fame.  He has served the sport as President of US Sailing (2009-2012) and Vice President of World Sailing (2012-2020). He was  inducted into the America’s Cup Hall of Fame in 2003, the National Sailing Hall of Fame in 2011, and is a recipient of the Nathanael Greene Herreshoff Award. He is a graduate of the State University of New York Maritime College. Jobson and wife, Janice have three grown daughters and five grandchildren. They live in Annapolis, Maryland.
