We've all read about the increase in cases of diabetes and the associated problems people with diabetes endure, but do we really take the threat of diabetes seriously? The American Diabetes Association doesn’t think so. Perhaps that’s because they know that nearly 26 million Americans (children and adults) are living with diabetes and that another 79 million are at “high risk” for developing Type 2 diabetes. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have their own eye-opening stats:
• Every 17 seconds someone is diagnosed with diabetes.
• Diabetes kills more people each year than east cancer and AIDS combined.
• Estimates project that as many as one in three American adults will have diabetes in 2050 unless serious steps are taken.
