According to a new special health report from Harvard Medical School, core exercises can help improve your athletic performance, help prevent or ease back pain, improve posture, and power everyday activities. The study states: “Weak or inflexible core muscles can impair how well your arms and legs function. And that saps power from many of the moves you make. Properly building up your core cranks up the power. A strong core also enhances balance and stability, helping to prevent falls and injuries during sports or other activities.”
You can strengthen your core with classic exercises such as abdominal crunches…or get a bit more creative with taebo boxing or belly dancing. And, of course, Pilates is all about strengthening the core, and the Barre workout, using ballet-inspired moves, elevates results to a whole new level. A good trainer can get you started with the right moves for your level of fitness.
