The Hammond-Harwood House is a five part Anglo-Palladian historic house museum that features some of the best woodcarving and decorative plasterwork in the United States. Built in 1774, this National Historic Landmark represents the final work of renowned architect William Buckland. The museum showcases a superb collection of decorative and fine arts. Furniture from colonial artisans, with special emphasis on Annapolis cabinetmaker John Shaw, is featured with 21 pieces. The museum houses an excellent collection of paintings by American colonial artists and 17 works by Peale family. Period rooms feature exquisite silver, china, and furnishings of the 18th and early 19th century. The mission of the Hammond-Harwood House Association is to preserve, for public education and enjoyment, the architecturally significant Hammond-Harwood House museum and its collection of fine and decorative arts.
