The Dorchester Humane Society is happy to announce that pet adoptions are 30% higher in 2011 than 2010. “Our goal is to keep pushing the number of adoptions higher each year so we can save more animals,” states Suzette Stitely Executive Director of the society. “There are many families looking for a pet and we're pleased that they are visiting us and choosing to rescue.” Dog adoptions outnumber cat adoptions 3 to 1 at the society. “We've tried many promotions to boost cat adoptions,” adds Stitely, “but the sad fact of life is that there are too many unwanted cats in our community.” The society has a low-cost spay/neuter program that focuses on free-roaming cats.
