ANNAPOLIS, MD - The City of Annapolis will host a Dia de los Muertos/Day of the Dead Festival at Maryland Hall in Annapolis starting at 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2022. The event, organized by the City of Annapolis Office of Community Services, will include a kid’s zone, vendors and artists, a Latino art gallery, an altar, professional photo portraits of those that come in dress and/or have traditional face painting, face painting booths, and a full program on stage including traditional dance groups of Latin American origin, Latin American musicians, salsa class, and a DJ throughout the event.
The event is free and open to the public.
The Day of the Dead celebration typically involves gathering to celebrate friends and family members who have passed. It is also known as All Saint’s Day or All Souls’ Day.
Attendees at the festival are encouraged to dress up to celebrate Day of the Dead, a traditional holiday celebrated in Mexico and many Latin American countries. One of the favorite traditions at Day of the Dead celebrations is sugar skull makeup, a Day of the Dead face painting technique. Come early to get a colorful sugar skull face painting at one of multiple booths. Other vendors will include food and Day of the Dead merchandise.
“Each year that we have hosted this event, it has grown,” said Mayor Gavin Buckley. “From our humble beginnings in the auxiliary gym at Pip Moyer Center to a block party in the Design District to this event on the front lawn of Maryland Hall. This event celebrates the beauty and diversity of our community!”
The City is hosting the event with the support of the Arts in Public Places Commission, Maryland Hall, Center of Help, the Organization of Hispanic/Latin Americans of Anne Arundel County, Anne Arundel County’s Office of Multicultural Affairs, Mundo Latino, Cool & Associates, The Maryland Department of Housing, Mi Lindo Cancun Grill , and community volunteers.

ANNAPOLIS, MD - La ciudad de Annapolis organizará un Festival por el Día de los Muertos en Maryland Hall en Annapolis a partir de las 4 p.m. el sábado 29 de Octubre de 2022. El evento, organizado por la oficina de Servicios Comunitarios de Annapolis, incluirá una zona para niños, un altar, vendedores y artistas, fotografías profesionales gratuitas por Dave Hartcorn, una galería de arte Latino, cabinas de pintura facial y un programa completo en el escenario que incluye bailarines de distintos países de América Latina, músicos latinoamericanos, clases de salsa y un DJ durante todo el evento.
El evento es gratuito y abierto al público.
La celebración del Día de los Muertos generalmente implica una reunión para celebrar a los amigos y familiares que han fallecido. También se lo conoce como Día de Todos los Santos o Día de los Difuntos.
Se invita a los asistentes al festival a disfrazarse para celebrar el Día de Muertos, una fiesta tradicional que se celebra en México y en muchos países de América Latina. Una de las tradiciones favoritas en las celebraciones del Día de los Muertos es el maquillaje de calaveras , una técnica de pintura facial del Día de los Muertos. Venga temprano para obtener una colorida pintura facial de calaveras en uno de los múltiples puestos del evento. Otros vendedores incluyen comida, arte, y artesanías.
“Cada año que realizamos este evento, crece” dijo el Alcalde Gavin Buckley. “Desde nuestros inicios humildes en el gimnasio auxiliar en el Centro Recreativo de Pip Moyer a la fiesta en la calle del Distrito de diseño a este evento en el espacio verde frente a Maryland Hall. Este evento celebra la belleza y diversidad de nuestra ciudad!”
La ciudad patrocina el evento con el apoyo del Centro de Ayuda, la Comisión de Artes en Lugares Públicos, Cool & Associates, El Departamento de Viviendas de Maryland, Mi Lindo Cancun Grill, la Oficina de Asuntos Multiculturales del Condado de Anne Arundel, Mundo Latino, y voluntarios de la comunidad.
