Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) is announcing that a portion of its Wildlife Drive will be closed for construction. Beginning May 31st, the “second section” of the Wildlife Drive will be closed from the Pool 5 turn-off to the Route 335 exit. During this time the majority of the Drive will remain open, and visitors will be able to access the Drive through the main entrance and depart through the Key Wallace Drive exit. Workers will be adding earth and rock to the embankment of the Wildlife Drive to protect it from erosion by the Blackwater River. The duration of the project is not set, and will primarily depend on weather conditions. Visitors can call the Visitor Center at 410-228-2677 if they have any questions.
