Easton, MD - The Frederick Douglass Honor Society joined by the Town of Easton, the Talbot County Free Library and Talbot County will celebrate the life and legacy of Frederick Douglass on Saturday, September 23, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Frederick Douglass Day features a parade, a welcome ceremony, a Douglass lecture, book signings, a children’s village, geocaching, live entertainment, art, artifacts, and a marketplace filled with food and retail vendors and local not-for-profit organizations.
“The story of Frederick Douglass is immensely inspiring as his life embodies the American dream of surmounting immense obstacles to achieve greatness. His many triumphs transformed the way the nation regarded tyranny and equality. Frederick Douglass Day is filled with an abundance of history, entertainment, and fun for people of all ages”, said Brenda Wooden, President of the Frederick Douglass Honor Society.
More than most, Frederick Douglass was the author of his life, educating himself, planning and effecting his escape from slavery, and creating his subsequent career as an abolitionist and advocate for equal rights. His legacy is timeless – a man for all seasons who writings to this day inspire people around the world. He is by far Talbot’s County’s most native son.
“The impact of Douglass’s fight for equality and justice holds a permanent place in America’s history, one that all citizens and visitors alike are reminded of when they catch sight of his statue on the courthouse lawn”, Wooden commented.
