Leaving a Legacy
r“Kim and I feel strongly that we want to give back to the communities that have meant so much to us. We want to leave a legacy and support the causes that we feel are so important to these communities. In order to accomplish our charitable goals, we partnered with the Community Foundation to accomplish this, and made a bequest through our wills to fund the Elling Family Foundation. Endowments will be set up to provide annual donations to the Anne Arundel Medical Center, the SPCA of Anne Arundel County, CROW (Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife) in Sanibel, Florida, and the operating budget of the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County. It is wonderful and reassuring to know that our wishes and goals will be carried on by our local Community Foundation for generations to come.”—Kim and Bob Elling
rHelping a Grandson to Honor his Grandmother
rHamilton Chaney established the Agnes Dixon Fund, a donor advised fund, in honor of his grandmother, a lifelong Galesville resident and a community matriarch. Th rough his fund, he supports nonprofits and public schools in South County such as the Carrie Weedon Science Center, Deale Elementary School, and Southern High School. He says, “CFAAC makes it easy for me to give to the organizations I want to support. Having a donor-advised fund is like having my own private foundation but without any of the work.”
rBuilding the Capacity of Local Nonprofits
rAn important role of CFAAC is to support nonprofits in every way possible. Th rough our Celebration of Philanthropy Scholarships we give staff and volunteers of local nonprofits the opportunity to attend trainings, seminars, or conferences that build the capacity of their organization.
rCelebrating Philanthropy
rEvery year CFAAC hosts the Celebration of Philanthropy Luncheon to celebrate generosity and charitable giving in Anne Arundel County. This event gathers more than 300 of the top philanthropists, volunteers and nonprofit professionals in the county to celebrate those who give of their time and resources to make the work of our vital nonprofits possible. Last year’s Philanthropists of the Year, Jim and Linda Humphrey, were honored for their generous support of the Key School, Hospice of the Chesapeake, and Wellness House.

rMaking an Impact through our Grants
rOver the last few years, we have given $2 million in grants and now are one of the largest philanthropic organizations in the county. We provide funding to a wide variety of nonprofit groups in Anne Arundel County to address emerging needs and changing community priorities. We just announced the award of nearly $125,000 to local nonprofits through our grant program, Ladders to Success. All the grants are designed to fund programs that provide opportunities for low income or vulnerable county residents to live healthy, vibrant, and successful lives. Our grant recipients include Anne Arundel Community College Foundation, Anne Arundel Workforce Development Corporation, Arundel House of Hope, Arundel Lodge, Centrode Ayuda in partnership with OIC, Inc., Opportunity Builders, Inc., Sarah’s House, St. Phillip’s Family Life
