On Saturday, November 19, 2011 from 7:30 to 11 p.m., the Corcoran Gallery of Art and College of Art + Design will host a special nighttime multimedia performance by Gaia, a D.C.-based group of musicians, singers, dancers, and DJs.
Inspired by the Corcoran’s current landmark exhibition 30 Americans (October 1, 2011–Fe uary 12, 2012), Gaia will actively incorporate the art and architecture of the Corcoran into their performance with dance and video projections, creating an experience that is part concert, part nightclub, and part performance art. More than 300 people enjoyed the group’s performance at the Corcoran in June 2011, inspired by the latest NOW at the Corcoran exhibition, Chris Martin: Painting Big.
During this evening of soul and hip-hop, guests will enjoy music, dancing, an open bar, and light refreshments. Live performances include Tamara Wellons (soul), Avenue To (hip-hop), DJ Stylus (vibe conductor), Tom Pipkin (congas and djembe), and Kolai (flute and tenor sax). David London, magician and the night’s host, will perform “Wandering Wonders” throughout the evening. A special dance performance will be given by Urban Artistry and D’Blend will provide video art curated by Juan Botero and Lina Almansa (Corcoran Class of 2007).
Tickets for Gaia at the Corcoran cost $30 for Corcoran members, staff, and faculty ; $40 for non-members; and $20 for Corcoran students. For more information and to purchase tickets, please visit https://getinvolved.corcoran.org/gaiaatthecorcoran.
