Baltimore SmartCEO magazine selected The Summit School's Founding Executive Director, Dr. Jane R. Snider, to receive a 2011 Baltimore Brava! Women Business Achievement Award. The Brava! Awards recognize the contributions of 25 female business leaders in the Baltimore area from over 250 nominations. A selection committee of area business leaders was tasked with choosing the top 25.

The Annual Brava! Women Business Achievement Awards cele ate CEOs, founders, presidents, owners and executive directors who combine their irrepressible entrepreneurial spirit with a passion for giving back to the community across the Mid-Atlantic. These female CEOs have become exemplary leaders in their companies and the community by encouraging local philanthropy, mentoring fellow CEOs and setting their companies on the path to tremendous growth.

Dr. Snider was selected for her leadership in founding The Summit School in 1989 and for her continued philanthropy through service in the local community. The Summit School is known as one of the best special education schools in the nation for ight students with learning differences, grades 1-8. Families have relocated from other countries and states in order for their child to attend this highly regarded and unique program. The campus is designed for 100 students annually, with an overall 4:1 ratio of students to staff.

Dr. Snider has received 11 awards and honors since founding The Summit School, including the Washington Post Distinguished Educator Award and being named one of Maryland's Top 100 Women. The Brava award hales her work with underserved children in Annapolis through a Literacy Counts project she organized and manages to tutor children from the Boys and Girls Club and Stanton Community Center in Annapolis. Children also come to Summit's academic camp in the summer. The project has been funded by foundations and area businesses.

The Summit School, located in Edgewater, MD, is a coed, not for profit school for grades 1-8. Summit offers a highly individualized academic program for ight students with dyslexia and other learning differences.
