Savor the rich and colorful wall hangings of Eastern Shore artist, Phyllis Gillie Jaffe at the Main St. Gallery in Cam idge.
On Fe uary 11, at the second Saturday reception, Ms. Jaffe, who has a wide and varied background which includes teaching art, serving as president of an arts college and becoming an ordained minister, will be present to speak about her work and her creative use of materials and symbols in her art. The reception, which is free and open to the public, will be from 5-9 pm at the gallery on 413 Main St. Light refreshments will be served. Jaffe cites as her early influences, the ight, saturated bands of color she saw everywhere growing up in the flat farmland of Indiana. When she moved to Maryland's eastern shore she was taken with the seasonal palette and with the raw, wild beauty of the dunes at Assateague Seashore Park. These natural influences as well as mythological characters figure prominently in her highly original work.
THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER runs through Fe uary 25. Gallery hours for the winter are Fridays and Saturdays from 11-5 pm. Gallery artists will be also be displaying their artwork in the gallery.
