Chesapeake Chamber Music will kick off its 2012 Gala with Rhapsody In Blue, a Gershwin concert, at Easton’s Avalon Theatre, followed by a gala cocktail party, dinner and auctions at the historic Tidewater Inn on Saturday, March 3, 2012. The concert will feature Adam Birnbaum, world renowned jazz pianist who has performed with artists as diverse as Greg Osby and Wynton Marsalis. Top female jazz vocalist Carolyn Leonhart, who has worked as lead back-up vocalist with Steely Dan, will provide a mesmerizing performance with her vi ant, clear-eyed tim e. The concert at the Avalon will begin at 6:00 p.m., with activities at the Tidewater Inn beginning at 7:00.
Following the concert at the Avalon Theatre, the gala awaits across the street at the Tidewater Inn with cocktails and dinner featuring the best tastes of the Bay and a silent auction. Some featured silent auction items art items include a framed oil still life, Blue Bowl, by Sarah Kagan and a reproduction onze Remington sculpture. Silent auction experiences to be sold include a cooking class with Bartlett Pear Inn Chef Jordon Lloyd; a golf outing with lunch for four; experience as a waterman for a day with Captain Mark Connolly; personal trainer sessions by Gina Adams, Board Certified Personal Trainer/Nutrition Specialist; a three-night stay in New York City with a gift card to Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola; and a tour and dinner at a local private wine cellar, as well as the ever popular Wine Store. Live auction items include trips to New Orleans, LA, Whistler, WA, and Carmel, CA; a sailing race aboard an Americas Cup Yacht in San Diego Bay; and Karen Mathis’s oil painting, Sunset Sail, featured in this year’s Chamber Music Festival publicity.
The Gala is underwritten by Wye Financial & Trust in partnership with Gilman Hill Asset Management, Jenny Van Leeuwen Harrington, Managing Director. Proceeds from the Gala benefit Chesapeake Chamber Music and its numerous musical offerings and outreach programs. Chesapeake Chamber Music’s performance programs have won critical acclaim, with award winning artists in performance, its YouthReach programs including First Strings and Presto! and the free in-school concerts that CCM provides.
