Giving Locally Builds Globally
Through Habitat for Humanity's tithe program, Habitat affiliates are encouraged to donate a tenth of what they raise in support of building homes in other countries. This year, 70% of this donation is goes to Argentina and 30% goes to disaster relief in Haiti and Japan.
Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake contributes $3,000 per house built by our affiliate to the international effort to eliminate global poverty.
Because a large portion of HFHC's tithe goes towards eliminating poverty housing in Argentina, Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake is hosting a Build Louder trip, the purpose of which is to visit the country to promote advocacy and help build a home. Staff, volunteers, donors, board members and city officials will travel in October to spend 10 days with our Habitat for Humanity partners in Buenos Aires.
It costs $30,000 to build a Habitat home in Argentina. That means for every 10 homes that Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake builds, the affiliate contributes enough money to construct one complete home in Argentina.
Donations to Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake also support the organization's international tithe. As local change is a catalyst for global change, support of our affiliate becomes a voice for change in Argentina, Haiti and Japan.
