Another excuse to wear a giant fancy hat means we're ready to welcome the weekend!
With the Kentucky Derby going on about 600 miles southwest, themed parties are a must, and we think we've found a good one.
Maryland Therapeutic Riding will host their fourth annual Derby Party Saturday, May 4th and the good news: tickets are still available.
The party starts at 5 p.m. (and goes until 10 p.m.) at the farm on Sunrise Beach Road in Crownsville.
Naturally, we had a few questions, and we bet you do too. Here's what we found out.
Tickets are $125 per person, and are still available. Buy them in advance, or get the at the door. Whatever suits your fancy, so long as you're there.
PYOC. Park Your Own Car. There's plenty of parking in the field, but no valet, so as long as it doesn't rain a lot the night before, parking should be a eeze.
Registration and cocktail hour with light hors d'oeuvres will begin at 5 p.m. and the race—which will be displayed live on the big screens—should start at approximately 6:20 p.m.
What Derby Party is complete without Mint Juleps? None that we know of. And at MTR, they know how to have a good time, so you can bet they won't be the exception. A limited open bar including beer, wine, Mint Juleps, a specialty drink, and a bourbon tasting are included in your ticket price. If you find yourself wishing for something else, (and we doubt you will), a full cash bar will also be available.
Re-recorded video races with mock betting will provide some interesting entertainment, and the dinner buffet opens at 6:30. (Yum!) There will be full tables and high top tables available, so you will have opportunity to sit down, should you decide to eak in a new pair of shoes. There will be a program at 6:45 and the live auction will kick off at 7 p.m.
There won't be a coat check, so dress accordingly. And speaking of dress, the code calls for big hats and boots. The event will be both inside and out, (mostly inside,) so flats and/or closed-toed shoes are recommended. It's semi-casual to casual: ladies typically wear spring or summer dresses with hats, and men wear jeans and khakis with polo shirts—boots are optional.
See you there!
