Yesterday County Executive John R. Leopold joined the construction team and local officials to cut the ribbon on intersection improvements made to Rt. 100 and Rt. 607 (Hog Neck Road).
r
Normally the County does not perform work on State roads, but Mr. Leopold felt this project was critical to mobility and public safety. Using Impact Fees from local development, the County added a second left turn lane and signal from Eastbound Rt. 100 onto Hog Neck Road, as well as a return lane and other improvements.
r
Prior to this project, cars would back up trying to make a left turn and back up Route 100, causing congestion and accidents. The cost of construction was $850,000.
r
Highlights include: A second dedicated left turn lane, from MD 100 EB onto MD 607 NB has been added. The existing left turn lane has been resurfaced. A second receiving lane on MD 607, from MD 100 through to MD 177 had been completed. Associated upgrades to the traffic signal have been included. The ramp from MD 100 WB onto MD 607 NB has been rebuilt. The shoulder of MD 607 SB has been widened. Most of MD 607 NB and SB has been resurfaced between MD 100 for a distance of approximately 1100 feet.
