Dr. Heaton graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Naval Science and a minor in Mechanical Engineering. After serving five years as an engineering officer on nuclear submarines, he changed careers and graduated from the College of Dental Medicine; Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston South, Carolina in 1979. Dr. Heaton then attended the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery for his specialty training in endodontics. Following completion of endodontic training in 1981, he joined an endodontic group practice in Washington, D.C., but then discovered the Eastern Shore, and in particular, Easton. It reminded him of Canton, Missouri, a small college town on the banks of the Mississippi where he attended junior and senior high. Rick knew this was the place to raise his family and put down his “roots,” no pun intended. Dr. Heaton has been practicing here ever since.
