This is how Laura Brino describes her own music. Intriguing, yet if she had added references such as Feist and Cat Power, one might assume her Saturday evening (3/19) performance in the Stoltz Listening Room would be upwards of $15 and filled to capacity. Turns out the Annapolis-based musician sounds every bit as captivating as these currently hot indie-scene artists. Her vocals are breathy and have been soaked in pure sweetness. Atmospheric and ethereal guitar (she fingerpicks) then provide the perfect backdrop as Brino elegantly sings about love, nature, and lost love.
rAll of the songs on her third self-produced release, "How We Survived" showcase a talent that should definitely not be limited to the ears and venues of the Chesapeake Bay region. But, for the time being, just be thankful they are and reward yourself with a live performance by a true (and rising) talent.
