Matt Rutherford, who set off from Annapolis last June in a 27-foot Albin Vega to sail solo around the Americas, will finally return to Annapolis this Saturday, at City Dock.

In September, Matt sailed through the Northwest Passage, where he set his first record as the smallest boat to ever make the crossing unassisted. When he arrives in Annapolis this Saturday, he will be the first person to ever solo the 25,000-mile journey without stopping. The mission behind the journey has been to raise money and awareness for CRAB (Chesapeake Region Accessible Boating). Currently he's raised almost $70,000, still short of his $250,000 goal. Once he reaches the Bay this weekend, Matt will be escorted by the U.S. Coast Guard, among other boats, to City Dock/the National Sailing Hall of Fame where he's set to arrive at noon. And not without a cele ation. Matt will meet with his family first, but then be invited on stage where he will be recognized by various individuals and organizations.
Matt's unprecedented feat has gained widespread attention in the media, the blogosphere, and even the Senate floor.
