Press Statement from Mayor Gavin Buckley on collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge over the Patapsco River in Baltimore.
Annapolis, MD - “Like so many this morning, I was shocked to hear of the cargo ship collision and collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge over the Patapsco River in Baltimore. I echo Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott that this is an unthinkable tragedy. The City of Annapolis has dispatched mutual aid from Annapolis Fire and Annapolis Office of Emergency Management to support Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Anne Arundel County, Maryland Department of Transportation, Maryland Department of Emergency Management and the United States Coast Guard with this incident.
“Baltimore and Annapolis have deep familial and historical connections: many Annapolis residents have family in Baltimore, have lived in Baltimore, or travel this route frequently. Baltimore is a great American City, rich in history, culture and diversity. We share the pain that all in Baltimore are feeling this morning and send our deepest sympathies and love to everyone impacted by this tragedy.
“Early Tuesday morning, we dispatched two City of Annapolis IMT workers to help with the rescue efforts and we are on standby to assist in whatever way is needed in the coming days and weeks.
“I have also reached out to Mayor Brandon Scott and Governor Wes Moore this morning to share our concern, love and readiness to help.”
