The biggest names in skate and BMX will be coming to Ocean City for the first time in the Tour's six year history, participating in Skate and BMX Vert, BMX Park and the Dew Tour's first-ever Skate Bowl contest. A full list of competitors will be announced at a date closer to the event.
Skate Vert will be sure to impress with Shaun White leading the pack, looking to ing his gold standard to the vert podium for the 2011 Dew Tour. Pierre-Luc Gagnon (PLG) is returning to defend his title as the 2010 Dew Cup champion. Andy Macdonald, Bob Burnquist and Baltimore native Bucky Lasek will ing years of competition experience to the ramp, while young gun Pedro Barros looks to prove himself in the pro ranks.
The Pantech Open marks the debut of Dew Tour's skate bowl competition. The event will ing together well-known vert legends with a new wave of young skaters tearing it up, represented by Barros, Zach Miller, Alex Perelson and Sky Seljig. Their new-school style will contrast with the experience of Burnquist, MacDonald, Chad Bartie and Rune Glifberg.
BMX Park competitors include the 16-year-old phenom Brett Banasiewicz, East Coaster and 2009 Dew Cup Champion Garrett Reynolds and reigning BMX Park champion Daniel Dhers. Dennis Enarson will ing his aggressive style to the park course designed by BMX legend Ryan Nyquist, who is also looking to add another podium finish to his long history of Dew Tour accomplishments.
Continuing to dominate in the Dew Tour rankings, Jamie Bestwick has no plans to stop in 2011. He will be joined by fellow Brit Simon Ta on, who also has 20 years of professional competition under his belt. After winning last year's Dew Tour Championship event in Las Vegas, Chad Kagy is attempting a repeat for this season, beginning with a strong start in Ocean City. There's no shortage of big names competing in BMX Vert, with Steve McCann, Francisco Zurita, Austin Coleman and more rounding out the field.
The Pantech Open will feature professional talent in BMX and skateboarding, as well as open qualifier competitions, and tickets for these contests are available at Ticketmaster.com. In addition to the competitions that will be taking place over the course of the weekend, the Dew Tour will also feature free components for the weekend, including a live concert taking place on the beach, as well as a Festival Village and Friday evening surf contest. The Dew Tour consists of four major, multi-sport events spanning across the country, with a cumulative points system, more than $2 million in event and bonus purses, awarded at year-end based on overall tour standings.
