Annapolis, MD – The City of Annapolis and SP+ today announced that Park Place Garage has been successfully upgraded to a gateless entry/exit system designed to simplify the customer experience. Customers using Park Place Garage, located at One Park Place off Westgate Circle, can now enter and exit the garage without having to pull a ticket, swipe a credit card, or wait for a gate to lift.
How it Works
Upon arriving at Park Place Garage, customers will find there is no gate blocking their entrance. Simply drive in and park in a space. Cameras at the entrance feature license plate readers (LPRs) that take a picture of each vehicle’s license plate. After navigating to a parking spot, customers have 20 minutes to pay for parking through the Parking.com app (Apple or Android), text-to-pay, QR code, Parkmobile (Apple or Android), or at a pay station kiosk that accepts credit cards. All methods of payment require a license plate number for vehicle identification.
If using smartphone options, extend parking time via the app or text. For the most convenient experience as an hourly parker (particularly regular or semi-regular customers such as residents), establishing a parking.com account and enabling automatic payment allows customers to enter and exit without restriction, charging for the time parked after applying validation. This makes parking similar to the way an E-Z Pass works.
When it’s time to leave the garage, simply exit. Customers no longer need to feed a ticket or credit card into an exit machine. Upon exit, the LPR calculates and verifies that parking customers paid for the amount of parking used. Failure to pay will result in a $50 citation.
Signage is posted throughout the garage to assist customers with payment options.
“Visitors to Park Place, hotel guests, tenants, and residents will benefit greatly from the ease of use as well as the flexibility the technology offers,” said Tom Hagerman, Senior Vice President at SP+.
Monthly Parking, Business Parking, and Park Shop & Dine
Parking will also be easier for holders of monthly and business parking validations, participants in Park Shop & Dine, and city residents using their two-hour free parking validations. For holders of these validations, contact SP+ at annapolisparking@spplus.com or (443) 648-3087.
