Bike to Work Week is an event celebrated across the United States each May to encourage and celebrate bicycling to work and promote public awareness of bicycling and bike safety. Bike rides to any location (not just work!) are eligible to participate in the event. During Bike to Work week and beyond, community members are encouraged to Bike There!
Bike to Work Week 2023 is scheduled for Monday, May 15 – Sunday, May 21, with locally hosted events and group rides throughout the week and Bike to Work Day events on Friday, May 19. Community members who register and bike during the event can pick up a free t-shirt and giveaway items at over 20 participating bike shops and local Bike to Work Day pit stops throughout the region.
Who We Are
AAC Office of Transportation Commuter Crew program explores different commuting options available in Anne Arundel County from biking and pedestrian trails to carpools to vanpools and transit routes. Our Bicycle and pedestrian planning goals are to create and maintain a safe, user-friendly bicycle and pedestrian network to encourage bicycling and walking as modes of transportation, as well as recreation, resulting in fewer cars/congestion, increased health, a cleaner environment, and an overall greater sense of community, within the County and the Region. Anne Arundel County Office of Transportation is dedicated to improving the quality of life and economic growth within our communities.
About Bike To Work Week
Bike to Work Week is an event celebrated across the United States each May to encourage bicycling and promote public awareness of bicycling and bike safety
By celebrating biking and promoting it as an equitable, safe, and healthy alternative to driving, we can:
Improve health outcomes
Spending time outdoors is good for physical and mental health. Biking has a positive effect on well-being, self-confidence, and resistance to stress.
Reduce air emissions
Switching from driving to biking -- to work, school, essential trips, and recreational activities -- reduces greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to the climate crisis and can have serious negative health impacts.
Improve bicycle safety awareness
Promotion of Bike to Work Week helps raise awareness of the rules of the road for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists, and also highlights the need for continued expansion of safe and comfortable sidewalks, bike lanes, shared-use paths and safe crossings.
Improve transportation equity
Many people throughout the Baltimore region lack access to a car or cannot drive, especially in traditionally underserved communities. Biking can provide a meaningful transportation option while also improving health.
