Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Presents Louis Lortie Plays Chopin
November 5th, 8 p.m.; The Music Center at Strathmore, North Bethesda
Swiss conductor Mario Venzago leads the BSO in a program of lush journeys including Rossini’s Overture to William Tell and Schumann’s Symphony No. 3, “Rhenish”. Louis Lortie, one of the world’s most versatile pianists joins the Orchestra to perform Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1.
Twelfth Night Duo Seraphim Concert
January 6th, 7 p.m.; Hammond Harwood House, Annapolis
Join us for an evening of music, poetry, and merrymaking as we celebrate this annual tradition! This year’s Twelfth Night concert will feature joyous baroque duets by Monteverdi and Vivaldi along with a selection of everyone’s favorite traditional carols. The setting is the historic candlelit ballroom of the Hammond-Harwood House. Critically acclaimed sopranos Elissa Edwards and Laura Choi Stuart join forces with Wade Davis, cellist, and Thomas Sheehan, harpsichordist. The performance will be punctuated with dramatic poetic recitations by Professor Katrina Atsinger of the Naval Academy.

Crimes of the Heart by Beth Henley

The three Magrath sisters are back together in their hometown of Hazelhurst, Mississippi in the mid 1970's. Lenny, the eldest, never left Hazelhurst -- she is the caretaker of the sisters’ cantankerous Old Granddaddy. Meg, the middle sister, left home to pursue stardom as a singer in Los Angeles, but has, so far, only found happiness at the bottom of a bottle. And Babe, the youngest, has just been arrested for shooting her husband. Under the scorching heat of the Mississippi sun, past resentments bubble to the surface and each sister must come to terms with the consequences of her own “crimes of the heart.

Winter Waterfowl Walks: December 3, January 7, February 4, March 4 Walk the refuge to see seasonal flora and fauna. Depending on the month, expect to observe wintering waterfowl and local wildlife. Walks are conducted in areas of Eastern Neck National Wildlife Refuge that are usually closed to the public. Guides are local refuge and birding experts. Free (with voluntary donation requested). These events are first-come, first-served. A confirmation will be sent to you to confirm your spot.
American Cancer Society Relay for Life First Lap
January 7th, 10 a.m.; Crofton Parkway
Everyone is invited to join as we officially launch the 2023 Relay For Life season at our #RelayFirstLap on Saturday, January 7, 2023 from 10:00 AM until noon in Crofton. Our first lap of the year will be around the Crofton Parkway, with the official starting point being the Crofton Village Green parking lot. We will be walking on the sidewalk around the Parkway, so please feel free to join the walk from any point along the way. Please make sure you stop by our table to check-in to share your support. This day is meant to be a day to kick-start your annual participation in Relay For Life. Just get outside and take a walk and share your participation on social media, using #RelayFirstLap. Since its inception, #RelayFirstLap has grown to engage Relayers from around the world and is a global day of celebration & building excitement for the new year! Make this a part of your annual New Year’s celebrations!

Art lovers are invited to join us for a special tour of highlights from AAM’s Permanent Collection. Curator Mehves Lelic will present works from across art history straight from the Museum’s vault, including etchings by Rembrandt van Rijn, Charles Daubigny, Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, and Salvador Dali; works on paper by critically acclaimed contemporary artists, including Pat Steir, Renee Stout, Anne Truitt, Sam Gilliam, Robert Indiana, David Hockney, and Jim Dine; photographs by Ansel Adams, Graciela Iturbide, and Imogen Cunningham; and more.
