On Wednesday, January 25, 2012 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., the Academy Art Museum will host an Open House for its Young Explorers Program, accepting registrations for the 2012-2013 term.
The Young Explorers Program is a museum-based educational program for preschool age children in association with the Smithsonian Institution’s Early Childhood Education Center. The goal of Young Explorers is to introduce young children to new ideas through a thematic approach to learning that emphasizes the ability to make meaningful connections. Each day the program utilizes the exhibits, collections and resources of the Academy Art Museum to encourage exploration and discovery. In the classroom, these experiences are extended as students learn about shapes, letters, colors, and numbers through such diverse themes as dinosaurs, outer space, and architecture. Now in its fourth year, the program offers a variety of options—including both two and four-day schedules for two to four-year-olds.
