Most recently, I determined that the numbers 3 and 8 are going to be our family’s lucky numbers, when a friend pointed out that we got married on 3/8 and celebrated our marriage with our wedding reception on 8/3. I did not even realize it!
rFirst, let me tell you about our ceremony. We held it on the beach at Sandy Point State Park with a small group of family and friends surrounding us. We were literally the only group in the park minus the few park rangers. It was nice and private. Keeping up with tradition, my dad walked me down the imaginary isle, laughing at how difficult we found it to walk on the sand in flip flops and dress shoes.
rTravis and I wrote our own personal vows, speaking from the heart. I thought I was being funny by pulling my vows on a typed piece of paper out of my dress since I didn’t have any pockets, but Travis went a level higher, getting the crowd to giggle when he, being the computer tech nerd that he is, pulled his cell phone out, on which he'd kept his typed vows.
rrOur photos were taken by Carol Timlin Photography and we couldn’t have been more pleased with the moments she captured.
rFollowing our ceremony, dinner was held at The Point Crab House & Grill in Arnold. There was a condensed menu to order from which included cream of crab soup, fish tacos and my personal favorite, fried pickles. The small ceremony was the perfect start to our life together as a married couple.
rrNow onto the party time…. Our reception.
rOur reception was on Saturday, August 3, 2013. My dad and stepmom were gracious, and brave enough, to host about 120 people at their house in Severn. In the beginning of the planning process, my stepmom gave me a folder with questions in it, about colors, ideas, etc. I reviewed my wedding pinterest board and picked my top favorite ideas, like the one of centerpieces that consisteted of a gerbera daisy floating in a small vase. My parents spent many, many weeks planning and when it was time for the reception, it took them a week to set it all up.
rThe invitations were created by fomer What’s Up? Weddings editor, Kelsey Casselbury. Beautiful colors of black, white, hot pink and “Ravens” purple and a damask pattern.
rOur reception was catered by Mission BBQ, our favorite local BBQ joint, and included pulled pork, sliced brisket, and macaroni and cheese. The cupcakes and wedding cake from Annette’s Cakery in Severna Park were heavenly. A coworker of Travis’ who DJs on the side was grateful enough to be our DJ. He has one of those great DJ voices that made everyone turn their head as he announced, "Please welcome Mr. & Mrs Jenkins." when we made our grand entrance. We sparked a tear in almost everyone’s eyes, as we shared our first dance as husband and wife to “White Dress” by Ben Rector, and were joined by our two-month old son, Jameson at the end of the dance. Our other special dances included, “Forever Young” performed by Matthew Morrison (as seen on Glee) for our father/daughter dance and “My Wish” by Rascal Flatts for the dance that Travis shared with his mom.
rrOverall, we could not have been happier with our wedding experience as a whole, surrounded by our family and friends. Travis & I cannot thank the vendors, guests and those who have supported our love and life together, enough. I look forward to many more years of love and happiness as Mr. & Mrs. Jenkins!
