A starter in both field hockey and lacrosse, Igler is excited about what her senior year will ing.
Igler, who was a soccer player at the time, began playing field hockey in the sixth grade when her best friend convinced her to play on her team. Admittedly, she wasn’t good her first season, relying on her friend for tips throughout the year. She got the hang of it eventually and has parlayed it into a successful high school career.
Igler reluctantly began playing lacrosse when she was eight years old because her dad signed her up. After initially being peeved about being signed up for a sport she had never played before, she quickly began to love it.
As a freshman and sophomore athlete, she looked up to her junior and senior teammates as role models. Off the field, Igler admires her parents because they support her at every game and have taught her what it means to be a good student athlete.
She enjoys team sports because it allows her to meet new people. Some of her strongest friendships stem from her time on the field bonding with teammates. What she learns on the field translates well for her off the field, as well. “Working as a team is really important because I think that’s something you can use in everyday life,” she says.
The biggest highlight from her junior field hockey season was assisting the game-winning goal in overtime against St. Mary’s. “It was really exciting because this was the second time we played them and we lost to them the first time,” she says.
Igler is looking to major in graphic design at either the University of Delaware or Miami (OH) University. She does not plan to play collegiate sports but would consider playing club sports.
At Severn School, Igler is involved in the student council, book club, and organizing the school yearbook. Outside of school, Igler’s favorite hobby is painting—anything from portraits to scenery.
