The Miami Heat may have been mightily extinguished by the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals this past Sunday night but the temperatures in Maryland sure are rising this week. Be sure to stay cool as the mercury rises at this weekend’s hottest events, pun intended.
One event that must be placed into your personal calendar is Eastport a Rockin', occurring on Saturday from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. along Back Creek on Second Street. More than 25 bands including Higher Hands, School of Rock, Swamp Candy, and Bumpin’ Uglies will be performing on three stages all day. Plenty of food and drink will be available with crab cakes, BBQ, gyros, and snow cones, as well as Miller and Yuengling products, non-alcoholic beverages, smoothies and coffee.
The 2014 Washington College Riverfront Concert Series begins Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Custom House in Chestertown featuring the Bumper Jacksons, who ing a throwback sound rooted in their love for swing, blues and old country music. Guests are encouraged to ing lawn chairs, picnics and blankets. The concert is free, as are the lemonade and cookies that will be on site.
Chestertown RiverArts will continue its second annual Art in Bloom fundraiser to benefit Community Mediation Upper Shore and Chestertown RiverArts on Sunday from 4-7 p.m. The fundraiser is a festivity of floral design filled with arrangements inspired by both of RiverArts’ June exhibitions. The Patron’s Reception will allow guests to view wall art, taste gourmet hors d’oeuvres, enjoy a cash bar, listen to music from the Pam Ortiz Band, and participate in a silent auction.
On Saturday, Main Street Gallery in Cam idge will host Sip and Create, an afternoon event filled with painting, music, food, and wine. Learn to create your personal landscape masterpiece with a discussion and demo by Dave Gibbons and Joanna McCoy. No experience? No problem. Everyone is welcome to attend and take home their very own acrylic landscape painting.
What better time of year to feel “cold as ice” than now? What better way to cool down than to take the trip to Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, Va. to see Foreigner and Styx on their two-and-a-half-month summer tour Friday at 7 p.m. Hear Styx’s greatest hits such as “Come Sail Away,” “The Grand Illusion,” and “Lady” and Foreigner’s chart-toppers like “Juke Box Hero,” “Cold as Ice,” “Head Games,” and “Urgent.”
RESOLVE's Walk of Hope is a one-mile walk that will take place at the National Harbor on Saturday from 8-11 a.m. to raise awareness and continue advocacy efforts supporting those living with infertility. Funds raised will support local RESOLVE programs helping families in need.
