brThis exhilarating adaptation of the classic Charles Dickens novel tells an epic story of vengeance and sacrifice poetically described in the famous first lines as "the best of times and the worst of times." When the French emigrant Charles Darnay returns to his native Paris to help a friend, his aristocratic past is cause for the new regime to imprison him in the infamous Bastille, where he is sentenced to death by guillotine. With time running out, Darnay's friends and family desperately try to free him before the iron falls. Annapolis Shakespeare Company’s production of A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens is adapted by Laura Eason and directed by Sally Boyett. Following the opening night performance on Friday, July 10th there will be an Opening Night Reception Party at Reynolds Tavern in the Courtyard where audience members can meet and greet critically acclaimed actors starring in A Tale of Two Cities and ASC professionals. The production runs through Sunday, August 2nd. In celebration of opening weekend, ASC is giving guests 10% off their ticket when they bring a friend and 20% off their ticket when they bring two friends (for advance online ticketing only). Jeffrey Silberschlag, music director and conductor of the Chesapeake Orchestra, will change hats and perform trumpet solos. Renowned tenor Jeffrey Springer, who has performed at the Chicago Lyric Opera, will sing various arias. The gates open at 5 pm with the concert beginning at 7 p.m. A new concert will be held every Friday through July 24th on the Townhouse Green of St. Mary’s College of Maryland.
