With 400 guests in attendance last year, Fish for a Cure has quickly grown to become one of the most anticipated and well-attended philanthropy events in town, and we can't wait to check it out.
Whether you like to fish, you like to party, or you just like to hang out with good company listening to good music, there is something for you.
The basics: The fishing tournament itself begins at sunrise and ends at 5 p.m. (on the dot, fishers! Don't be late) The weigh-in will start promptly at 5 p.m. on Pusser's Dock Bar, and at 6:30 p.m., the party (Tournament Bash) gets started at the Marriott/Pusser's. The whole thing benefits the Geaton and JoAnn DeCesaris Cancer Institute at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Here's what you need to know:
Parking: The hotel’s valet parking is for guests only, but don’t fret: the fancy new digital meters all around downtown mean you can park without lugging all your change with you. Alternatively, you can park at any one of the city garages. Hillman is the closest—drive up Main Street and walk down Duke of Gloucester. Easy peasey.
Drinks: Beer is open at the weigh-in, beginning at 5 p.m., and the bar blows wide open—including beer, wine, and liquor—at the tournament bash from 6 to 10 p.m. After 10 p.m.—and the event technically ends at 11 p.m.—it’s a cash bar.
Coat Check: It’s officially that time of year again! The time when whether an event will feature a coat check becomes a factor when we’re getting ready. Fish for a Cure says wear whatever coat you want—you can check it at the door, which means less fuss and zero carrying it around.
Dinner: Don’t fill up before you get there—there will be a high end buffet full of delicious tastings.
Tables: There will be both sit-down tables and high top tables, which means, ladies: feel free to wear your uncomfortable heels. We kid! (Kind of.) There will be too much dancing…
Entertainment: Music for the night will be ought to guests by Dan Hass, School Of Rock, and the One Man Band. So do ing your dancing shoes. In addition to live music, there will be a silent auction that includes, among other things, a PRS guitar signed by Paul Reed Smith, week-long stays in vacation homes, home gyms, and an ultra-high-end shuffleboard table.
Dress: The event dress code is sort of a dressy casual. Based on last year’s photos, (which you can find on Fish for a Cure's Facebook page.) we’re suggesting nice denim or khakis for men, and jeans and a jeans and a nice sweater or blouse for women. Basically, what you’d wear for a casual night out on the town. That is what this is, right?
Tickets are $75 each, are still available and will be available at the door, so you have plenty of time. Don't miss it! We'll see you there.
