rrr rThe Washington Capitals (2-0) took advantage of their two home games to start the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. Washington pulled off a three-goal second period Thursday night after heading into the first intermission with a 1-0 lead. The Caps ended up winning 3-1. Saturday presented a goalie duel, which is what most people expected throughout the series. With the score still 0-0 in overtime, Capitals defenseman Mike Green put Washington's four period scoreless streak to an end when he fired the game-winning goal eight minutes in. The Caps are hoping their momentum carries them through Madison Square Garden these next two games and onto the next round. The Nats finished the weekend taking two of three in Pittsburgh against the Pirates. Dan Haren improved from 1-3 on the season to 3-3 with his last two performances, allowing only 10 hits and three runs in that span. Next game: vs. Detroit Tigers, May 7th, 7 p.m. r rr rThe Baltimore Orioles (19-13) ended their west coast road trip winning four of seven games against the Seattle Mariners and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Pitcher Jason Hammel enhanced his record to 5-1 after the road trip. In the last eight days, Manny Machado has hit .419 with two home runs and five RBIs. Next game: vs. Kansas City Royals, May 7, 7:05 p.m. r rr rThe No. 1 Maryland women's lacrosse team (19-0) found out they will be taking on the winner of the Stony Brook vs. Towson game in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on May 12 at noon. The No. 6 Terps men's lacrosse team (10-3) won its 10th in the regular season finale against Colgate. Kevin Cooper scored six points against the Raiders. Ben Rubeor led the team with seven goals.
